Baking Dough to Make $ome Dough!

We’ve all been feeling it lately. The sharp rise in the price of everything due to recently unheard of inflation rates. Pandemic, War, Supply Chain Shortages, you name it! They’ve all contributed in part. Among other things, the price of food has felt it the worst. Whether it’s due to actual direct inflationary causes, or perhaps more blatant price gouging (aka Loblaws), whose to say. And does it really matter at this point? That shite’s gone crazy high.

Not too long in the recent past, you use to be able to… :

…get a dozen eggs at shoppers routinely for ~$1.79.

…get a loaf of bread at No Frills for ~$1.69.

…buy a 24 pack of pop for under ~$8-9.

…and you used to be able to buy a cheap microwave dinner for $1.50

Not anymore!

Gas Isn’t Expensive

Danger: Angry Goose Ranting Ahead!

It’s Your Car That’s Expensive

Well, we’ve made it folks! As of May 2022, we surpassed the $2 per litre barrier. I’ve seen it reach as high as $2.17 where I live. And it’s about time! I’m surprised we haven’t gotten here sooner even with the large contribution from the geopolitical crisis caused by the invasion of Ukraine. All this whining and complaining about how much it takes to fill up your tank… Stop it! Just stop it!

Because you know what? Gas isn’t expensive. It’s your car that’s expensive…

Costco Angst

Costco has been getting me so mad lately. The visits usually start well enough but they’ve been ending on an infuriating note. Don’t get me wrong. Costco can be generally enjoyable, mainly when there’s hardly anyone there. They usually have all these random, interesting things that they bring in to sell which you might not see elsewhere. They have solid prices on a lot (but not all) of what they sell. And they have cheap take out food. But man, the last few times when I end up at the cashier…holy smokes does it rile my biscuits, and I’m going to tell you why.

PC Optimum Points – Part 4: The Rule of Averages

The PC Points conundrum: How can you ever win when you fully enjoy losing?
Image by Eric Perlin from Pixabay

There is a lot of “free money” to be earned through the PC Optimum program.

We’ve previously discussed quite a bit about how to maximize your points through various strategies, and on the surface all looks pretty good. Unfortunately it’s not all sunshine and roses. There’s another hidden problem that we have not yet addressed, but which I alluded to very briefly at the end of Part 2.

What happens to the value of your points if the item that you purchased to earn those points was significantly marked up to begin with? And what if other competitor stores were selling that item for cheaper? Would you still be getting those super higher return rates? Or is it all just a mirage, designed to fool you into monetary submission. And how do we figure out if we’re actually getting free money, or if we’re just receiving another hollow promise?

We’re going on another deep dive of this topic, and to help us out, I’m going to use something I like to call, the Rule of Averages.

State of Play: Cable, Internet, Phone

One of the most unthought-of and yet complained about expenses of the modern day is how expensive cable, internet, and phone services have become. The former two being especially guilty of this. It’s not unheard of to pay as much as $200-$300 (or more) for everything combined. Do you want to find out how to decrease your bill by up to 85%? Well, you better get ready and buckle up! Because this is as exciting as it’s going to get!!

The PC Optimum Program – Part 3: Maxing Out!

“Let them eat cake!” -Galen Weston

You’re paying a price. And it’s higher than you might think. Much of the cost has been hidden, swept under the metaphorical rug. But it’s still there. It’s always been there….. lurking… watching…waiting… ready to take your hard-earned dollars under the guise of free stuff and good feelings… of bright warm colours and rewards.

How do you fight something that’s deceptively trying to eat your money? By maxing out of course! Speaking of eating… I hope you like cake!
